Altitude, vase life, and the math of a 60 cm rose.
A rose grown at 2,800 m is not the same rose as one grown at 1,800 m. The difference is in the stem, the head, and the buyer's pricing.

Cayambe sits at 2,790 m in the Ecuadorian highlands. The air is thin, the UV is hard, the night temperatures dip toward freezing. Roses here grow slowly. A stem that would push 60 cm in eight weeks at Naivasha takes eleven weeks in Cayambe — and comes out denser, with a tighter head and a darker leaf.
For the buyer, that translates directly into vase life. A 60 cm Mondial out of Cayambe will hold for eleven to thirteen days at a wholesale customer. The same variety from a lower-altitude farm holds eight to nine. That difference is the entire commercial case for high-altitude roses.

It also explains the price gap. Slower growth means lower yield per square metre — sometimes a third less. A grower in Cayambe needs roughly 18–22 percent more euros per stem just to match the unit economics of a lower-altitude farm. The market knows this, but only partly. Buyers who do their own vase-life testing pay it. Buyers who just look at the price tag do not.
